Despite a soaking rain for the better part of two days, the weather had improved enough on Monday night in The Bronx that both the Yankees and Orioles thought their game would be played, albeit after an hour or so delay following the original 6:35 p.m. start time.
Instead, the field didn’t drain as well as hoped, leaving a significant amount of water in shallow left field. Following another delay of an hour and a frantic attempt by the Yankee Stadium grounds crew to salvage the night, the game was finally called.
