Yankees one-upped themselves on stupid base-running plays

For today’s lesson on What Not to Do in Baseball, we’ll go straight to the second inning Saturday at Yankee Stadium with the Yankees batting against the Brewers.

First, the Brewers paid tribute to folly by sending about three-quarters of their team after a Didi Gregorius leadoff pop that eventually hit off shortstop Orlando Arcia for a two-base error. Oops.

But the worst was yet to come.

The Yankees’ Chase Headley sent a one-hopper back to Brewers starting pitcher Brent Suter, who turned, spotted Gregorius in no-man’s land and promptly threw to third baseman Travis Shaw.
