TAMPA -- The Yankees haven't just been keeping tabs on their own players in the World Baseball Classic.
They have scouts attending tournament games and former Los Angeles Angels closer Ernesto Frieri caught their eye pitching for Columbia last Sunday.
Yankees right-hander retired all 15 Phillies that he faced Wednesday night in Tampa.
Three days later, the free agent right-hander who was out of baseball last season was in Tampa working out for the Yankees on Wednesday.
By Thursday, Frieri is expected to sign a minor-league deal with the Yankees and be thrown into a mix for three open bullpen spots.
