The Yankees announced Thursday evening that they officially sent backup infielder Brendan Ryan to the Chicago Cubs as part of the Adam Warren-Starlin Castro trade last week.
Part of the trade was a "player to be named later," and multiple reports had pegged Ryan. Sure enough it was him.
The 33-year-old Ryan saw limited time with the Yankees last season, playing a limited role in the infield. In 96 at-bats he hit .229 six doubles and two triples.
Ryan was hurt much of the year, suffering several setbacks early on that included a back injury, a Grade 2 calf strain, a pulled hamstring, and heat exhaustion/dehydration while rehabbing.
