Outfield help is on the way for the Yankees.
The Yankees’ trade with the Giants for veteran Andrew McCutchen became official Friday, after it was reported Thursday night the sides had agreed to a deal in principle. The Giants are getting two Yankees minor-leaguers — infielder Abiatal Avelino and right-handed pitcher Juan De Paula — in return.
The teams also agreed to split the roughly $2.4 million remaining on McCutchen’s contract this season.
McCutchen, though far removed from his All-Star and NL MVP (2013) days with the Pirates, gives the Yankees much-needed insurance in the outfield as Aaron Judge lingers on the disabled list with a chip fracture in his right wrist.
