Yankees not rock stars in London, but MLB has small, passionate group of fans

LONDON — For sure, not even the most cockeyed optimist would compare the Yankees’ arrival in Europe to The Beatles’ arrival in America 55 years earlier.

When the Yankees departed their stately hotel Friday morning for a workout, one ballplayer after the next filing from a side exit into a trio of vans, a heavy security detail had to ward off … one person.

“I know in the States, they are big stars,” said the frustrated gentleman, who identified himself only as Martin and said he had worked with Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman at a 2009 tournament in the Netherlands.
