SARASOTA, Fla. — Aaron Boone made official on Saturday what had been a foregone conclusion after Luis Severino went down with an inflamed rotator cuff.
“Masahiro Tanaka will start Opening Day for us,’’ the manager said before the Yankees faced the Orioles at Ed Smith Stadium. “He’ll be followed by [James] Paxton and [J.A.] Happ in the rotation. And then obviously, from there we’ll see how it plays out.’’
That’s where Saturday’s starter, Luis Cessa could come in, because the Yankees are already down a pair of starters, with both Severino and CC Sabathia expected to open the regular season on the injured list.
