The Kansas City Royals’ victory over the Mets on Sunday night in the fifth and deciding game of the World Series was seen by an average of 17.2 million viewers on Fox, nearly 37 percent better than the average for Game 5 of last year’s Series, between the Royals and the San Francisco Giants.
The average viewership for the Series, 14.7 million, was 6 percent better than the average through five games last year, when the Giants won in seven games.
Sunday’s game had strong competition from “Sunday Night Football” on NBC, which attracted 23 million viewers for Denver’s 29-10 win over Green Bay.
