For much of the spring, the New York Yankees made outfielders Jay Bruce (signed to a minor league deal with an invitation to camp) and Mike Tauchman work and compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster.
As it turns out, the Luke Voit knee injury opened up a spot for Bruce and Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone ended up choosing Tauchman’s defensive prowess in the outfield over Derek Dietrich’s versatility, so both Tauchman and Bruce made the team. The latter will fill in for Voit until May, when he returns from the injury list.
