The Yankees were really holding out hope that they wouldn’t have to place their left-handed hitting shortstop, Didi Gregorius on the disabled list.
After colliding with Blue Jays’ first baseman Kendrys Morales on an RBI infield single during the first inning of Sunday afternoon’s affair, Gregorius tried as he might to brave it out, but was eventually lifted in the third inning for Ronald Torreyes.
With manager Aaron Boone calling it “a pretty significant bruise” at the time, the club will mark the move retroactive to August 20.
Set to begin a two-game set in Miami against Derek Jeter’s Marlins, the Yanks curiously recalled first baseman Luke Voit to take Didi’s spot on the 25-man roster.
