CLEVELAND — Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira's problematic right knee will likely need off every fourth or fifth day the rest of the season.
The sore knee was the reason Teixeira came out in the sixth inning of the Yankees' embarrassing 10-2 loss to the Indians at Progressive Field on Friday.
Teixeira told manager Joe Girardi the knee — housing a tear in the cartilage — acted up during batting practice and was much worse in the middle of the game.
Girardi said he planned to sit Teixeira on Saturday and play him Sunday, the last game before the All-Star break.
