Yankees looking at speedy Cuban 2nd baseman

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Yankees had eyes on Andy Ibanez on Saturday in Miami, where the 22-year-old Cuban second baseman worked out for major league clubs.

Ibanez isn’t as highly regarded as fellow Cuban Yoan Moncada, the switch-hitter infielder who bypassed a $25 million offer from the Yankees to sign with the Red Sox for $31.5 million during spring training.

“[Ibanez] can run, but doesn’t have much power,’’ said a scout who has watched Ibanez play extensively.

An industry source said Ibanez could command a $6 million signing bonus; another said it could be more in the $7 million- to-$10 million range.
