Yankees' lineup vs. A's: Brett Gardner scratched

NEW YORK — As the Yankees' early season funk continues, Alex Rodriguez finally is taking baby steps toward climbing to Mendoza Line.

A-Rod homered in his first at-bat in Sunday's win over Seattle, then added his second multi-game game of the young season Monday night in a 3-2, 11-inning loss to the Oakland A's.

The three hits in nine at-bats over two games soared A-Rod's season average from .100 to .154.

Tuesday's setback was the fifth in six games for the Yankees, who dropped to last in the AL East at 5-7.
