The Yankees weren’t going to win every game, and the hapless Orioles weren’t looking at winless season.

So the Birds’ 5-3 victory over the Yankees on Saturday in front of 42,203 at Yankee Stadium wasn’t a shocker. What was a surprise was the way the Orioles’ pitchers handled the Yankees’ potent lineup.

Basically the same cast of characters that punished the O’s on Opening Day were put to sleep by Nate Karns, Jimmy Yacabonis, Miguel Castro and Mychal Givens, before Richard Bleier wilted in the ninth and had to be rescued by Mike Wright.
