Yankees’ laughably pathetic bats take 10 innings to do nothing

BALTIMORE — Years ago, Johnny Podres was pitching without much support from the Brooklyn Dodgers lineup and turned to Pee Wee Reese late at night begging.

“Pee Wee, you guys have to get me some runs,’’ the lefty said to the shortstop.

Reese replied, “Johnny, sometimes you have to shut them out.’’

Masahiro Tanaka wasn’t around to hear Reese’s logic, but the Yankees’ ace channeled those words Thursday night at Camden Yards against the Orioles.

In a season-high eight innings, Tanaka allowed five hits, one walk and fanned seven.

The Yankees problem was that Kevin Gausman matched Tanaka through eight innings, not allowing a run and yielding three hits.
