Yankees just avoid year’s worst loss in nearly doomed comeback

MINNEAPOLIS — Even with the Twins on the field and in the batter’s box, no runs in six innings put the Yankees in position to absorb the worst defeat of the season Saturday at Target Field.

When the Yankees arrived Thursday night for the first of four games, it was believed a sweep was needed to keep the Yankees relevant in the AL East.

Then Ricky Nolasco blanked the Yankees across six innings and Michael Pineda gave up four runs in five-plus frames.

This being the Twins, easily the worst team in the AL, it was a matter of time before they would implode.
