NEW YORK -- Gleyber Torres is out for the season, impacting the development of the top prospect in the Yankees system and costing the big league team a potential impact call-up later this season.
On Tuesday, Yankees manager Joe Girardi reacted to the Torres news--and gave his perspective on how dangerous and unpredictable sliding at home plate has become after Torres was lost on an awkward dive to the plate at Triple-A.
"Disappointing," Girardi said when asked about the loss of Torres to a torn elbow ligament. "It's interesting, as I started to think more and more about the situation, I think slides have become a lot more creative at home plate because catchers don't block the plate.
