TAMPA - Rob Refsnyder's path to big-league utility infielder hit a road block Sunday.
The Yankees optioned the 25-year-old to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, reassigning him to minor-league camp. During the first half of the spring, it appeared that Refsnyder would have a chance to break camp with the team, but his transition to third base became rockier than expected.
"Our feeling is we want him to go play more third," manager Joe Girardi said. "For him to be valuable to us, we feel that if he can (play second and third), it would really be valuable to us.
