BOSTON - He didn't get the victory, but at least CC Sabathia got to pitch in one.
The Yanks lefty turned in one of his best performances of the season on Friday night as the Yankees came back to beat the Red Sox 3-2, going ahead on Alex Rodriguez' 660th career home run. He allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three. More important, he held the high-scoring Sox to 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
"I think it is a step forward: That's obviously one of the best offenses in the league," said Sabathia, who is still 0-4 but cut more than half a run off his ERA.
