NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — Aroldis Chapman’s desire to return to the Yankees has been paired with an offer from his former team.
Yet, as Day 4 of the winter meetings at the Gaylord National worked its way past dusk, the gas-throwing lefty closer hadn’t informed the Yankees whether he was accepting a five-year deal believed to be in the $85 million-$87 million range.
And it wouldn’t be a winter meetings if Brett Gardner’s name didn’t surface in a trade discussion, even if it wasn’t believed to be something that would carry the Yankees’ left fielder to Cleveland or Baltimore.
