Yankees’ hopes of gaining on Blue Jays die on warning track

BOSTON — Fenway Park’s out-of-town scoreboard doesn’t have the jumbo digits that are easy to ready from anywhere in the stadium.

The small white numbers are set against a dark green background and there is very little separation between games.

Yet, even if the Yankees had to squint, they could make out what was happening in Toronto, where the AL East-leading Blue Jays hosted the Indians.

With the Yankees and Red Sox locked in a tight game in the seventh inning Monday night, the message coming out of the Green Monster in left was pleasing to the Yankees’ eyes because for a change the Blue Jays were trailing in the ninth and would eventually lose.
