Yankees first baseman Greg Bird doesn't see the signing of slugger Chris Carter as a bad thing, according to a report from Newsday's Erik Boland.
"We're excited to have him, honestly," Bird said, per the report. "It's another bat, and a good bat, and I think he can bring a lot to the table. I think it's good for our team and I'm excited to meet him."
Carter, the reigning National League home run leader, is expected to push Bird for at-bats at first base this season.
All offseason, the Yankees had been pushing a spring training first base competition between Bird -- considered the future at the position -- and Tyler Austin, a resurgent ex-top prospect.
