It has been long enough since the Yankees last won a World Series that three members of that team were back for Old-Timers’ Day on Sunday.
They’d like to see another title before coming back again next year.
“The Yankees need to win again,” said Johnny Damon, who represented the 2009 team Sunday along with first-timers Mariano Rivera and Jerry Hairston Jr. “That’s what we’re rooting for.”
Those in attendance to play in the 73rd annual Old-Timers’ Day were optimistic about the Yankees’ chances this year. While Sunday’s 9-4 loss to the Astros snapped their eight-game winning streak, the Yankees were still leading the AL East despite being ravaged by injuries.
