Yankees get minor-league infielder Tony Renda from Nats

The Yankees on Thursday swapped reliever David Carpenter, who had been designated for assignment, to the Nationals Thursday for minor-league infielder Tony Renda.

Renda, 24, was hitting .267 with one homer and 23 RBI for Washington’s Double-A Harrisburg club. In four minor-league seasons, Renda has a .288 average and a .366 on-base percentage and 77 steals in 94 attempts.

Renda, mostly a second baseman, was a second-round draft pick in 2012 out of Cal-Berkeley. Entering the season, Renda was ranked as the 12th-best prospect in the Nats’ system by Baseball America.
