TORONTO — Tempers flared and benches cleared early and often Monday night, as the Yankees and Blue Jays engaged in a two-episode skirmish at Rogers Centre.
By the bottom of the second inning, with the score tied at 1-1, Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino, manager Joe Girardi, bench coach Rob Thomson and pitching coach Larry Rothschild all had been ejected. While no punches appeared to be thrown, Yankees rookie Tyler Austin sported a bruise under his left eye as he stood in the visitors’ dugout.
In the bottom of the first, Severino hit Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson with a pitch in his left elbow pad.
