After losing the first two games, the Yankees looked to deny the sweep.
Chad Green and Andrew Cashner had a clean first inning but the Yankees scraped out a run in he second inning. Didi Gregorius reached first on a fielding error by Alexei Ramirez and advanced to third on a single by Aaron Hicks. Ronald Torreyes grounded into a double play but Gregorius scored to put the Yankees ahead.
Looking for a shut down inning, Chad Green fell behind in the count to Yangervis Solarte and the former Yankee went the other way with a solo home run, tying the game at one.
