BALTIMORE — The Yankees lost, 9-4, to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Sunday, finishing their playoff-bound season with a whimper.
New York (87-75) has lost six of its last seven games and crawls into the postseason after a 3-0 sweep at the hands of the Orioles. At this point, does the Yankees' Wild Card game on Tuesday in New York feel like anything other than a formality, one extra game delaying their inevitably vacant October?
All of this regular season futility is mutually exclusive, of course, and they could wind up running the table through the rest of the month.
