Well, Yankees dropped the first series played in the 2017 season. On a bright side, the last time Yankees had a season opener in the Trop, they got swept (2011) so, uh, improvement? It was not an ideal series but they got plenty more games to go. Their losing formula tonight was simple: Pineda got knocked around and the bats went silent.

Mike Pineda allowed 27 homers last year, which is at 1.38 HR/9IP rate. It’s not exactly dreadful but you want to see much less gopher balls from the starter.
