Hurricane Michael hit close to home for the Yankees.
Tampa has long been a Yankees stronghold, where the late owner George Steinbrenner built the team's player development facilities and even had a high school named in his honor.
So, on Tuesday, the Yankees said they donated $100,000 to Hurricane Michael relief. Half will go to the American Red Cross. The other half will go to the Salvation Army, the team said.
"The devastation caused by Hurricane Michael in the Panhandle of Florida is overwhelming," Yankees General Partner and Vice Chairperson Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal said in a statement.
