After finishing as the runner-up in last year’s race for the batting title, DJ LeMahieu is back on top. The Yankees’ second baseman went 2-for-4 on Sunday afternoon, bringing his average to .364 and earning his rights as the American League batting champion.
White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, who won the batting title last season, finished in second with a .322 average. He needed a 7-for-7 day to upset LeMahieu. Instead, he went 0-for-5 against the Cubs.
LeMahieu, 32, appeared in 50 games for the Yankees in 2020.
