Joe Girardi was still miffed about a controversial play from Tuesday’s season opener, but the Yankees ended up not filing a protest following the loss.
Dellin Betances threw the ball away on the key eighth-inning play, and Houston’s Carlos Correa wasn’t called for interference. The play led to the winning run as the Yankees lost for the fifth straight year on Opening Day.
“We did not file a protest,’’ Girardi said prior to Wednesday’s game in The Bronx. “Our feeling was that the rule as stated, [it’s] in the umpire’s judgment if the first baseman can catch it.
