Yankees demote Tommy Kahnle in eye-opening move

Tommy Kahnle was dominant last year. If he will be this year, he’ll have to dominate Triple-A competition.

The 28-year-old reliever was optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, in response to the Yankees activating Adam Warren off the DL. The Yankees made the moves after their 7-4 win in Detroit in the first game of a doubleheader.

Kahnle became the odd man out because Jonathan Holder, Chasen Shreve and A.J. Cole have beaten him out for now. Kahnle returned from a DL stint for shoulder tendinitis May 24 but has appeared in just two games since — in one of which, May 26 against the Angels, he allowed four runs (two earned) in two-thirds of an inning.
