TAMPA — Having bought out four years of arbitration with Luis Severino and keeping Aaron Hicks away from the free-agent market following this season, the Yankees have had discussions with shortstop Didi Gregorius and reliever Dellin Betances about multi-year deals.
There are others the Yankees could consider signing to long-term deals, but GM Brian Cashman wouldn’t identify which controllable players the club has been talking to. Reliable backup catcher Austin Romine can be a free agent after this season. Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge will be arbitration eligible for the first time following the season.
