The Yankees continued their fire sale on Monday as the nonwaiver trade deadline was set to pass, sending Carlos Beltran, their best hitter, to the Texas Rangers for the minor league pitchers Dillon Tate, Erik Swanson and Nick Green. All three prospects throw right-handed.
Minutes before the deadline, the Yankees also dealt pitcher Ivan Nova to the Pittsburgh Pirates for two players to be determined. Nova, who was 7-6 with a 4.90 E.R.A., was signed by the Yankees as a free agent in 2004. He, like Beltran and reliever Aroldis Chapman, were to be free agents at the end of the season.
