Former New York Mets general manager and current MLB.com columnist Jim Duquette named the New York Yankees as one of three likely suitors for Yoenis Cespedes once he hits free agency this offseason.
Duquette sees Cespedes as the top position player on the market assuming he opts out of the three year deal he signed with the Mets last winter. Cespedes has been very vocal about enjoying his time in New York and has even surprisingly said he wouldn’t opt out of his contract, but has since backed off those comments.
The 31-year-old outfielder would be leaving millions of dollars and long-term security on the table if he doesn’t take advantage of the thin free agent market this year.
