TAMPA - When the Yankees acquired Aroldis Chapman in December, they knew there was a possibility the closer would be unavailable at the beginning of the season due to a potential suspension for domestic violence allegations.
But the Daily News has learned that Chapman's discipline could also include a ban from participation in spring training, meaning his time in Yankees' camp could be cut short if Commissioner Rob Manfred rules on the case in the coming days as expected.
Players that have been suspended for performance-enhancing drug violations have been allowed to take part in spring training activities - including exhibition games - before serving their suspensions during the regular season.
