With outfielders Aaron Hicks, Jacoby Ellsbury and Billy McKinney on the disabled list the Yankees acquired Trayce Thompson off waivers from the Dodgers before Tuesday’s 11-4 win over the Rays.
Thompson is the brother of NBA star Klay Thompson — who is one half of the Warriors’ championship backcourt, which also includes Steph Curry, known as the Splash Brothers.
In another move the Yankees moved right-handed reliever Ben Heller (bone spurs, elbow) from the 10-day to the 60-day DL.
Thompson, who is out of options, likely won’t immediately join the Yankees so they won’t have to make a move on the 25-man roster.
