One milestone down, another to go.
CC Sabathia reached the 3,000 strikeout plateau Tuesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks — becoming the 17th pitcher and third left-hander in MLB history to reach the mark. He fanned former Yankee John Ryan Murphy with a low change-up in the second inning to join the illustrious club.
Next up for Sabathia, who plans on retiring after this season, is joining the 250-win club. Sabathia’s 247 wins heading into Tuesday night rank the most among active pitchers.
“Getting it out of the way early would be great,’’ Sabathia recently said of reaching 3,000 strikeouts in his final season.
