Earlier this afternoon, the Yankees called up Luis Cessa from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The right-hander is scheduled to make tonight’s start against the Tampa Bay Rays. As a corresponding move, the club reportedly designated reliever George Kontos for assignment.
Cessa, 26, has made eight appearances for the Yankees this season. That includes three starts. While in the rotation, he managed a 3.14 ERA over 14.1 innings. His peripherals left a lot to be desired, however, as he owned a 4.76 FIP over that span. Cessa didn’t strike many people out, and he had a bit of a home run problem.
