The Yankees’ struggling bullpen took a hit on Tuesday when Tommy Kahnle was placed on the 10-day DL with right shoulder tendinitis.
Luis Cessa was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his spot on the roster.
Kahnle’s velocity has been down this season, from the upper 90s to about 94, but Kahnle repeatedly said he was fine physically.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed particular concern recently in Kahnle’s drops on the radar gun this season.
“Kahnle being down a couple of miles an hour is obviously something we are watching closely,” Boone said on Sunday, when the Yankees were rained out in Detroit.
