TAMPA – Dellin Betances has been one of the most dominant relievers in baseball for the past two seasons. So why is he still approaching this spring as if he was still a rookie?
The towering righthander enters 2016 as a two-time All-Star and one-third of the most fearsome bullpen trio in recent memory. But things haven’t always come so easily for the 27-year-old, who needed nearly nine years after being drafted to assert himself as a productive big-leaguer.
“It took me a long time to get where I’m at now,” said Betances, who was drafted in the eighth round in 2006.
