As Kevin Long prepares for Game 2 of the National League Championship Series in his first year with the Mets, his successor with the Yankees finds himself without a job.
Jeff Pentland will not return for a second season as the Yankees' hitting coach, according to a source. General manager Brian Cashman informed Pentland and bullpen coach Gary Tuck that they would not be back for the 2016 season.
The 69-year-old Pentland guided the Yankees to the No. 2 offense in the majors this season, their 764 runs ranking behind only the Blue Jays' 891. But the Bombers struggled down the stretch, ranking 11th in runs scored in September.
