After taking six of seven from the formidable Rays and Astros and in front of a two-game weekend series against the Red Sox in London, the Yankees were faced with the challenge of not letting up against the brutal Blue Jays across three games.
“We have to go out and make sure we are buttoned up and prepared to put our best foot forward,’’ Aaron Boone said late Monday afternoon.
Not only did the Yankees do that, they planted their cleats on the back of the Blue Jays’ necks until Jonathan Holder allowed the visitors to get off the mat in the eighth inning when he gave up five runs and didn’t record an out.
