TORONTO — The disappearance of Amelia Earhart and the allure of boy bands are among the world’s great unresolved mysteries. No longer on that list is one of baseball’s curiosities: Mark Buehrle’s drought against the Yankees.
Buehrle, a Blue Jays left-hander, is one of the best pitchers of his generation, having recorded 203 wins — the fourth-highest total among active players. Yet in his sterling career, spent almost exclusively in the American League, Buehrle had beaten the Yankees only once before Wednesday night, when Toronto collected a 5-1 victory.
Buehrle, whose record against the Yankees improved to 2-14 in 22 starts, went more than 11 years between the victories.
