TAMPA — The Yankees worked out right-hander Ernesto Frieri on Wednesday and are expected to sign the 31-year-old.
He saved 37 games with the Angels in 2013, but hasn’t pitched in the majors in two years.
He’s coming off an appearance with Colombia in the WBC.
“This is a guy that saved a lot of games,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday.
“He pitched well in the WBC. Some of our people saw him and he’s going to get an opportunity here.”
