Yankees add longtime power threat as Greg Bird insurance

The Yankees now have a Greg Bird backup plan.

The team signed veteran first baseman Adam Lind to a minor league contract Friday morning, which includes an invitation to major league spring training. He is expected to provide an option off the bench, whether at first base or in the outfield, according to Brian Cashman.

Lind has an out in his deal at the end of the spring training should he not make the major league roster.

The Yankees have indicated they are all-in this season on 25-year-old Greg Bird, who has shown promise despite battling through various injuries over his two seasons in the majors.
