Earlier today, the Yankees swung a minor trade with the Cleveland Indians. The Bombers acquired right-handed reliever George Kontos in exchange for cash considerations. The team assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Kontos, 33, has struggled this season. He’s pitched to a 4.68 ERA with a 5.93 FIP in 25 innings between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Indians. He clearly isn’t the same arm that pitched well for the San Francisco Giants during two of their World Series runs. He’s essentially a fastball-slider pitcher, with a cutter and a sinker.
