Yankees 4, Red Sox 5: Well, there goes the season

I was introduced to the concept of Zen Baseball when Tyler Norton joined Pinstripe Alley earlier this season. Essentially, Zen Baseball means to enjoy baseball for its leisure purposes, without getting frustrated by some kind of unfortunate event and allowing that to ruin your night. I felt that I had achieved peak Zen Baseball the game following the trade deadline—any losses following that point were taken in stride as part of the process of rebuilding, and any wins were simply a nice gift to enjoy. The Yankees could have lost 15 straight games and my reaction would have likely been “cool, now they’ll have a better draft pick.
