This game started off with so much promise, but got away from the Yankees in a hurry. The offense gave Gray a 4-1 lead to work with, and it just wasn’t enough. He had another awful outing, surrendering five earned runs through three and two-thirds innings. The Yankees had to turn to the bullpen early, demonstrating just why they opted to send Ronald Torreyes down in favor of keeping 13 pitchers.
The Angels wasted no time getting on the board. Zack Cozart led off with a single that deflected off of Miguel Andujar’s glove, then Mike Trout followed with an RBI double off the left field wall.
