Yankee Stadium proves unkind to Shohei Ohtani

New York City can be hard on tourists. Just ask Shohei Ohtani.

He was booed all weekend, failed to produce a hit, didn’t pitch and his team lost the series. His first trip to Yankee Stadium was a bust. Countryman Masahiro Tanaka made sure of that.

Tanaka struck out Ohtani twice in a meeting of two of the biggest baseballs stars to leave Japan for America as the Yankees took the rubber match of the series from the Angels 3-1 and Ohtani left the city without making an impact.

“I knew he was a good pitcher,” Ohtani said through a translator.
